How do the pros do it?

Trampolining is not only a fun recreational activity, but it is also a competitive sport that is showcased in the Olympics.

Olympics

Athletes around the world train intensively for trampolining competitions, which are highly competitive and very entertaining to watch. Trampoline routines must include specific skills, which are very difficult and require years of practice to master:

Barani: This is a front somersault with a half twist. It is also sometimes referred to as a front-half. It can be done in a piked (legs straight with arms reaching towards them), tucked (legs to chest), or straight position.

Cody: This trick can be done forwards or backwards. In a back Cody, the athlete starts in a front drop position, where they are horizontal on the trampoline, pushing with their arms and feet, and then execute a 1 ¼ somersault that lands on the feet. In a front Cody, the athlete also starts in a front drop position, but instead does a ¾ somersault in a forward direction, landing on the feet.

Quadriffus: This is defined as a quadruple somersault in any position that has at least half of a twist. Athletes can add more twisting for additional difficulty. Double and triple versions of this move, which are less difficult, are referred to as a ‘fliffus’ or ‘triffus’.

Miller Plus Plus: This is a highly advanced skill that is based off of the original Miller, which is a double back somersault with a single twist in the first somersault and a double twist in the second. However, in the Miller Plus Plus, the athlete completes a total of five twists over the course of the two somersaults in the air.

Look out for these tricks at the Olympics – you will definitely be impressed.

Revive Your Trampoline For Winter

unnamed

Is your trampoline looking a little sad? It may be needing a little attention!

The team here at Topline Trampolines have a few tips on how to make your trampoline happy again and to keep your kids bouncing through the Winter months.

Make sure you keep your kids active when it’s too cold for activities like beach swimming or water fights, and ensure your trampoline is in good condition.

Topline’s Top 5 Tips To Make Your Trampoline Lasts

  1. Swap / relocate slightly over-stretched springs with a spring from a less active area or if springs are more than slightly over-stretched, replace them.
  2. If the stitching on your black mat is unravelling, remove the mat and send it in for a re-stitch.
  3. Periodically remove the legs and check for signs of rust. If OK, spray with a rust inhibitor and replace legs.
  4. If your Spring Pads need replacing, (normally if it has been more than 1 – 3 years) order some new ones.
  5. Clean only with cold water. (Usually, the rain does it for you).

Keep Your Trampoline Clean

With the autumn leaves falling all around us in the backyard, it’s handy to know the best way to keep your trampoline clean.

Safe to say, it’s really easy and can be a good excuse to get wet and have fun in the backyard!

As trampoline experts, we recommend:

  1. Brushing off any leaves or excess dirt with a broom
  2. Clean the trampoline only with cold water (never use detergents, soaps or other solvents to clean the mat surface because this will impact on the durability and life of your mat).
  3. Let it dry!

Easy peasy!

Basic Trampolining Moves

Do you know your basic trampolining moves?

Tucked: with knees clasped to chest by hands

Picked: with hands touching close to feet and both arms and legs straight

Straight: body in straight position with legs together, toes pointed, and arms by the sides

Puck: This is a fourth shape that is used less often. It appears to be a hybrid of pike and tuck, and is often used in multiple twisting somersaults – it is typically used in place of a ‘tuck’ and in competition would normally be judged as an open tuck shape.

See if you can spot the moves in this video:

Basic Trampolining Rules

Are your moves on the trampoline up to competitive stage?

Here are some of the basic rules for trampolining:

  • A routine must always start and finish on feet.
  • Competitors must start their routine within 60 seconds after presenting to the judges.
  • Competitors are permitted up to one “out bounce”, a straight jump to control their height at the end of a routine, before sticking the landing.
  • The trampolinist must stop completely – this means that the bed must stop moving – and they have to hold still for a count of 3 seconds before moving.
  • In competitions, moves must usually be performed in one of the following 3 basic shapes: Tucked, piked straight.

Tip 2 – Bounce in the middle

Bouncing in the very centre of your trampoline is the safest place. It’s also the most bouncy!
